Certified sustainability at nagels.

At nagels, we know how important it is to consider environmental issues in ticket production.   As international attention to protecting the environment and the impact that products and services can have increases, so does the demand from customers and the public for change and for organizations to address these issues in a transparent and positive way.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Ecological sustainability

With various measures, especially in production, we try to keep the ecological impact of our products on the environment as low as possible - our numerous solar panels help us to do this. In addition, we only use materials in accordance with the FSC standard for our ticket solutions. In addition, nagels is certified according to ISO14001.

Economic sustainability

With our goals and our strategy designed to achieve them, we ensure that nagels continues to be a strong partner in the regions where it is located - also for its employees. As a family business with a long tradition and a new generation in the management, nagels remains a reliable employer.

  • The materials used by nagels are specially sourced to meet the functional requirements of the TIS and the climatic conditions in which the tickets are used.

  • The papers used by nagels are all free of bisphenol A (BPA) and are offered as both standard and thermal coated papers, ensuring that all regulatory and environmental requirements are met.

  • nagels has FSC chain of custody certification, and we require our raw material suppliers to have the same certification whenever possible to ensure that the papers used to make our tickets come from controlled and sustainable resources. Most products are recyclable and/or biodegradable.

Production.

As a company, nagels has taken a number of initiatives to address the environmental impact of ticketing and provide greener and sustainable solutions. We have invested in clean solar energy solutions at our corporate site by installing nearly 1,000 large-scale solar panels, which provide a large portion of the kWh of energy used in ticket production. In addition, continuous investment in production capacity and processes has enabled nagels to reduce waste while increasing productivity and performance through improvements in digital printing, inline finishing, and smart ticketing and coding.

At nagels, the topic of sustainability and climate neutrality of our products and ticket solutions plays a central role. Therefore, we have been an official partner of Climate Partner for several years and offer our customers the option to produce their products climate neutrally.

What is climate neutrality?

Climate neutral are companies, processes and products whose CO2 emissions have been calculated and offset by supporting internationally recognized climate protection projects. At nagels, we offer you the option of having a CO2 offset calculated for the production of your ticket solutions. In addition to avoidance and reduction, offsetting CO2 emissions is an important step in holistic climate protection.

What is a carbon footprint?

A carbon footprint indicates how many CO2 emissions a product has caused in the course of its life.

How is the carbon footprint for a product determined?

International standards exist for the creation of a carbon footprint. Climate Partner uses a footprint manager to quickly calculate the CO2 emissions of your nagels print job. In the quotation, we compare the two options (e.g: This product generates [XXX] kg of CO2. Offset the emissions for [XXX EUR] - by supporting a climate protection project). After the order, Climate Partner provides a logo and an ID number with which the ticket is unmistakably marked.

The Climate Partner projects that our clients can support are selected to focus on the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and meet many of the goals directly with on-the-ground action. Below you can read the case study of our client l'aventure Michelin.

Case Study.

In 2022, the French customer l'aventure commissioned Michelin nagels to produce their admission tickets. The customer wanted this production to be climate neutral. For this purpose, the nagels team calculated the costs for compensation and presented a corresponding project of the Climate Partner.

166 kg of CO² had to be neutralized for the production of the tickets. This was achieved with the combined project VERs + Regional Commitment. This is a project initiated by the Schutzgemeinschaft Deutscher Wald e.V. (German Forest Protection Association). The CO² offsetting takes place entirely via a climate protection project that is certified according to international standards. On more than 97,000 hectares, the project(climatepartner.com/1056) protects the forest in Pará at the mouth of the Brazilian Amazon and avoids commercial deforestation. For local families, it creates alternative sources of income, for example through trade in the açaí fruit. Colombia's largest REDD+ project protects 1,150,200 hectares of rainforest and preserves its biodiversity(climatepartner.com/1402). It provides education, health care, sanitation, food security and other social services to 16,000 indigenous people.

In addition, as a combined project, one tree is planted in Germany for every ton of CO² offset, thus helping German forests to adapt to climate change.

nagels supports all customers in calculating the additional costs to have their own project produced in a climate-friendly way. Get in touch - nagels will be happy to advise you.

10 of 17 goals supported.

  • Improved livelihoods and income opportunities for already 800 families in one of the poorest regions of Brazil.

The project has also provided endowment funds to 13 schools to support children in their education.

  • The project has created jobs for the local population and trained hundreds of guards and captains to carry out project activities. It also promotes entrepreneurship among the local population in agriculture, traditional crafts and tourism.

  • Production of organic açaí and sustainable agroforestry products instead of deforestation.

  • The project saves approximately 72,330 tons of CO2 emissions annually.

  • The project helps protect wetlands and aquatic networks: 78 sub-basins and numerous watersheds are critical to species in the forest and all have their own valuable ecosystem. The project will conserve 136 fish species.

  • The project helps to preserve the rich biodiversity of the area, including 249 bird species, 198 butterfly species, 33 dung beetle species, and 121 plant species. Many of these species are rare or endemic.

  • The project strengthens governance in the area by improving the capacity and connectivity of the authorities. The project trains and educates communities about their rights and responsibilities in the indigenous reserve within the country's constitutional and legal framework.
