Parking with scratch cards is a variant of metered parking without vending machines, instead the customer buys a booklet of scratch cards in advance. In order to use the scratch cards as parking tickets, the cards are usually provided with fields such as day, date, year and time (for cards with a validity period of less than one day). These fields are then covered with a scratch-off latex material. When used, the corresponding fields are rubbed off by the user to invalidate the card and prevent its reuse.

Scratch cards are most commonly used where there is a need to provide motorists with an easy way to park in a controlled parking area. They also provide a very cost-effective method of cashless parking by selling cards for specific periods on a pre-paid basis.
